John Ratcliffe Will Seek Republican Nomination for Congress

HEATH, TEXAS – John Ratcliffe today filed paperwork with the Republican Party of Texas to seek the Republican nomination for the 4th Congressional District of Texas.

“After careful thought and much prayer, I am excited to launch my campaign,” Ratcliffe said. “Our country faces enormous challenges, and we need new, energetic leadership to tackle them.”

“Like many in East Texas, I have become increasingly frustrated with the Obama agenda which endangers our country’s future,” Ratcliffe said. “At every turn, Obama strips away more of our liberties and spends more of our children’s money. It’s time for Republicans to start winning again.”

Ratcliffe has a proven record of fighting for conservative values.

As U.S. Attorney for East Texas, Ratcliffe earned praise for his efforts to combat terrorism, public corruption, internet child predators and drug trafficking. As U.S. Attorney, he led “Operation Icebox” – one of the largest methamphetamine drug prosecutions in Texas history.

In addition, John led a national operation, “Operation Plymouth Rock,” that included the successful prosecution of hundreds of illegal aliens who committed identity theft and social security fraud to unlawfully gain employment. As a result of the related investigation, the employer subsequently agreed to pay a $4.5 million dollar criminal penalty.

As mayor of Heath, Texas, Ratcliffe balanced eight straight budgets in tough economic times without raising taxes. “I hope to have the opportunity to continue fighting for these conservative values in Congress,” Ratcliffe said.

“I expect a hard fought race, but I look forward to the process of earning the support of voters.”

John and his wife Michele been happily married for 23 years. The couple has two daughters, and the family has lived in Heath, Texas for the past 17 years.
