John Ratcliffe Advances to Runoff with Hall
For the first time ever, a majority of voters want Hall to come home
ROCKWALL, TEXAS – Former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffe has taken a giant step forward in his campaign to unseat 17 term incumbent Ralph Hall. Ratcliffe successfully held Hall to under 46% of the vote in Tuesday’s Republican Primary – forcing a runoff election on May 27th. Ratcliffe took home 29% of the vote, and is well positioned to consolidate support to bring new representation to this district for the first time in 34 years.
“I’m humbled by the support I’ve received today,” Ratcliffe said. “For the first time ever, the voters of this district have asked for new representation to stand up to President Obama, stop the out-of-control spending and restore conservative values.”
As the U.S. Attorney and as an eight year mayor, Ratcliffe has earned praise for defending the Constitution, keeping America safe from terrorism, cracking down on illegal immigration and refusing to raise taxes. Endorsements like that of the Dallas Morning News further buoyed his campaign, which enjoyed a groundswell of grassroots support and fundraising success.
Ratcliffe says those close to the campaign always believed this was possible. “We made history tonight, and I’m confident we’ll do it again on May 27th,” Ratcliffe said. “From the beginning of this campaign, I’ve been committed to outworking the field. I’ve crisscrossed this district with a positive, solutions-oriented message about fixing the problems in Washington. The reception has been overwhelming.”
Ratcliffe says he enjoyed getting to know the other challengers in the race. “I commend Lou Gigliotti, Tony Arterburn, Brent Lawson and John Stacy for their desire to pursue public service,” Ratcliffe said. “We all share the same desire to put America on a better path than the one that we’re on right now.”
