Ratcliffe Amendment Passes to Protect Red River Army Depot from BRAC
Washington, DC – Congressman John Ratcliffe successfully introduced an amendment to the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act (H.R. 4974) to prohibit funds from being used for a base realignment and closure (BRAC).
The Fourth District of Texas is home to the Red River Army Depot which not only employs over 5,000 people in the region, but also provides our national defense by playing an invaluable role in supporting the Army’s readiness. This amendment will protect the Depot by ensuring that funds from this appropriations bill cannot be used for another round of BRAC.
“Supporting the Depot and our national defense has been one of my priorities in Congress,” said Ratcliffe. “We live in a world with rapidly evolving threats, and unlike our president – I refuse to play politics with national security. Our brave men and women in uniform deserve our full support and the necessary tools and resources to keep us safe.”
