Yesterday would have been Ronald Reagan’s 103rd birthday. I hope you will join me in remembering a great President who inspired generations of Americans.
As a college student, I had the chance to hear Ronald Reagan speak in person. His message was one of optimism, opportunity and hope. Yes, Reagan was talking about hope decades before President Obama borrowed that term. President Reagan proved to the world that smaller government, lower taxes and less regulation lead to economic growth and prosperity. He reminded us that the Republican Party is indeed the party where you can go as high and as far as your own hard work and abilities will take you and where free enterprise and entrepreneurial spirit are rewarded, not punished.
Ronald Reagan also believed in American Exceptionalism. He understood that the United States holds a unique leadership position in the world – one that defends freedom and protects liberty. While I’m always proud to be an American, watching our athletes represent us in the Olympics should serve as a special reminder of the greatness of this nation and of the values we embrace.
As we honor Reagan’s memory and cheer on Team USA, let’s remember just how lucky we are to live in this great country.
